GUNNISON, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Wrestling Camps are the longest-running wrestling
camps in the United States and will be holding sessions for the 50th
time this summer. More than 1,200 student-athletes went through the camp
last summer between the Western Technique camp, the Mountaineer 5-Day
Intensive Camp, Crimson Team Camp and Slate Team Camp.
Space fills up quickly for the Mountaineer 5-Day Intensive Camp on June
10-14 for seventh graders and older. This camp features training with
college wrestlers and is geared for high altitude training at 7,720 feet
above sea level. The Western Technique Camp will take place over the
same five-day period for ages 9-18, and will focus on instruction and
the perfection of existing technique. The camps will also feature 15-20
matches for the individuals during the course of the week.
The Crimson Team Camp runs June 15-19 for eighth grade teams and up, and
the camps will feature 15-20 matches for teams along with instructional
sessions from the Mountaineer coaching staff and camp counselors. The
Slate Team Camp will feature the same lineup during the June 20-24 week.
Coaches can take advantage of additional resources for practice,
fundraising and team building, and video from the instructional sessions
are also available. All costs for wrestlers and coaches include meals
and lodging.
Campers will have the opportunity during the camps to take part in the
various recreational activities in the Gunnison Valley, including
whitewater rafter, fishing and hiking.
