Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects out of Denver were selected to design the new Recreation Center/Fieldhouse building along with J.E. Dunn Construction out of Colorado Springs.
The architects will provide an update on construction progress and provide a conceptual fly through of the future facility and climbing wall.
The new building is under construction and will cover over 118,000 square feet. The new structure will contain a full 200 meter 6-lane track, long jump and pole vault, with three multipurpose courts in the center. The design will also include a new High Altitude Performance Laboratory, 5,800 square feet of new fitness equipment and 6,000 (3,600 square feet in Activity 1, 2, & Spin) square feet of activities and exercise rooms. Additions to the Paul Wright Gym include new offices for track and football coaches and staff, new team rooms, and a new athletics weight room.
In addition the new facility will include a 1,500 square foot 40 foot tall climbing tower, a 215 square foot free style training foam pit with trampoline, and renovated pool locker rooms.
Designs are underway for a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified project.
Construction began June of 2012 and will finish by the spring of 2014.
