Poet, scholar and editor Jared Smith will read as the featured guest for WordHorde’s second 2013 open-mic event. The reading takes place in the West Wing of Western’s Savage Library on Thursday, Sept 26, at 7:30 p.m.
Smith is the author of ten volumes of poetry, two spoken word CDs and two multi-media stage productions in New York and Chicago. He is Poetry Editor of Turtle Island Quarterly and serves on the Advisory Board of The New York Quarterly Literary Foundation.
His poems, essays and literary commentary have appeared in hundreds of journals in the U.S., Canada, Europe and China. He has hosted reading venues in New York’s Greenwich Village and Chicago, as well as serving on the editorial boards of The New York Quarterly, Home Planet News, The Pedestal Magazine and Colorado’s Trail & Timberline Magazine.
He travels frequently and has given readings, workshops, and lectures at universities, colleges, libraries and similar institutions throughout the United States.
WordHorde is the English Department’s spoken-word project, fostering expression of the literary arts on the campus and in the community, and all events are free and open to the public.
