A spectacular tour of the great Colorado Mineral Belt with emphasis on Leadville, Vail, Estes Park, Glenwood Springs, Redstone and sites in between. Visit and learn about one of Colorado’s most storied mining regions. Ride on the Georgetown Silver Plume railroad, Amtrak, tour the Leadville Mining Museum, Rocky Mountain National Park, Argo Mill, Vail museum, Redstone Castle and stay at some of the most famous historic hotels in Colorado. The mining frontier, narrow gauge railroads, geography, unique Victorian architecture, and history is emphasized.
$750 (includes course fee, travel, lodging, ticket on the railroads, and all tours and museums). Cost does not include food and personal expenses.
Dr. Duane Vandenbusche has taught at Western State Colorado University since 1962 as a professor of history. He teaches classes in Colorado History and History of the Gunnison Country. He has written 5 books: Marble, Colorado: City of Stone; Early Days in the Gunnison Country; A Land Along the Western Slope; The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad; Lake City Branch; and The Gunnison Country.
