What is Business Administration?

Students discussing in class. The faculty in the Department of Business, Accounting, and Economics believe that the most successful students are those that enrich quality education in business with the greatest possible breadth in their undergraduate education. Thus, as a business administration major at Western State College, you are required to take a full range of general education and liberal arts courses—designed to broaden your insights into the aesthetic, cultural, scientific, and social aspects of human experience—while still completing necessary related business courses.

This approach results in graduates who have completed at least 30 percent of their coursework in liberal arts disciplines but still have met the specific educational requirements to become successful business people. An emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking skills, writing, mastery of learning using various teaching methods, and a synthesis of knowledge.

The goal of the Department is to produce well-rounded, well-prepared students with expertise in one of several areas of business with a wide range of liberal arts.

New Emphasis Approved

The Professional Land and Resource Management Emphasis is designed to prepare students to work in the business side of energy exploration. Recognizing the demand for graduates in this field and a desire for Western to provide leadership in the responsible development of energy and natural resources in the Rocky Mountain region, an emphasis has been developed within the Business Administration major.
