TriBeta Biological Society

Tri Beta Key.TriBeta is an honorary and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Its activities are designed to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment and investigation in the biological sciences. It is a national society affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of the Sciences. The Gamma Chapter at Western State College was founded in 1925 and is one of three hundred chapters in the nation.

 

The Tri-Beta Gamma Chapter at Western State College is hosting the 2007 Western District I Regional Convention. Convention registration forms and information are available on the 2007 convention webpage. For additional conference information contact Becky Sears.

Chapter Functions and Activities:

  • Speakers:
    Presentations are given by visiting scholars, faculty, student researchers, and graduate and professional school representatives.

  • College Service Projects:
    Members participate in tree planting, highway cleanup, tutoring services...

  • Field Trips:
    Trips are taken to various sites in the Gunnison area.

  • District and National Conventions:
    Conventions provide an opportunity to present original research papers, interact with biologists from other colleges, and attend programs, talks, and field trips.

  • Social Activities:
    TriBeta sponsors social events such as: Pot luck dinners, cook-outs, hikes, and other social events.

  • Other Benefits of Membership:
    Opportunities include meeting people with similar interests, journal club discussions, peer group advising, book swaps, and receiving the TriBeta journal Bios. Activities vary from year to year based upon interests of members.

Tri-Beta Freshman Scholarship

Tri-Beta encourages undergraduate excellence in academic field. For this reason the Gama chapter offers a departmental scholarship to its current freshman members for academic excellence and outstanding involvement within the club.
