Scholarship Accountability

In order to achieve high standards of excellence at Western State College and within the ALPS program students of the ALPS program will be held accountable their performance in a variety of areas. These include grade point average, service and campus involvement hours, meeting and retreat attendance, and participation.

The purpose of this accountability statement is to provide clear and consistent expectations of students within the ALPS program.

Grade Point Average

• All students are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA)

• Freshmen in the first year ALPS program who earn a GPA of less than 3.0, but greater than 2.2 during their fall semester will be placed on ALPS program probation. In order to be successfully removed from ALPS program probation such students must earn at least a 3.0 during the following spring semester of their freshman year. Note: the student’s cumulative GPA may still remain below 3.0 but as long as the spring semester GPA is at least 3.0 the student will be successfully removed from ALPS probation and invited to continue in the ALPS program.

• Freshman students who earn a GPA of less than 2.2 during the fall semester will be immediately removed from the ALPS program. They will not be placed on probationary status. Note the probation program only applies to the fall semester of the freshman year.

• All freshman students whose spring semester GPA is below 3.0 will be removed from the ALPS program regardless of probationary status the prior semester.

• All other ALPS student must maintain a 3.0 GPA every semester in order to remain in ALPS. For example, if a sophomore student receives a GPA of less than 3.0 for their fall semester, they will be immediately removed from the program.

Retreat Attendance

Freshman students are required to attend retreats from the time the retreat departs from campus to the time the retreat returns to campus. Students will be charged $19 to pay for the expenses of the retreat. There is no retreat program for students of Denali, Crestone, or Andes programs.

General Attendance and Participation

All students are required to attend the various activities of the ALPS program including but not limited to leadership workshops, group project planning session, group projects, group meetings etc, unless the students is faced with a documented medical or family emergency, or a documented conflict with an academic class.

Students who do not attend the leadership workshops for any other reason including job committments, personal activities, sports etc, will be removed from the program immediately.
