What it is… Anthropology is the holistic and cross-cultural study of humans. This major appeals to students with a strong desire to learn about other cultures, civilizations, and customs. Experience in language, history, library research, travel, and fieldwork become valuable within the field.
Special Features …Western's location provides a unique opportunity for Anthropology students. Western State College has conducted field schools on the Tenderfoot Site since 1991. Our faculty members are active in field research and have obtained numerous grants for funding their fieldwork and for purchasing state-of-the-art field equipment. Western's students learn to use this equipment in the field to collect data and then analyze and report the results of their investigations. The area also exhibits a lot of cultural diversity from indigenous cultures such as the Ute Indians to Mexican and Mexican Indigenous groups to a significant Eastern European population offering lots of opportunities for ethnographic fieldwork in our own backyard!

"I chose this program at Western because of the location for archeology field work. I would not have had the same access to the field work at another school and Western’s program gives students an edge."
