Welcome International Students!

Please visit our international admissions website as you consider attending Western as an international student. Information is available regarding international admissions requirements, English language requirements, living and working in Gunnison and much more.

Western State College of Colorado is proud to have students from over 17 countries including Scotland, Nepal, Hungary, Austria and Kenya. Our international students find Western’s small campus, friendly faculty and support services helpful as they study outside their native countries.

SkiierMarco Schafferer, Austria

Marco is from Austria and this is his first semester at Western. He is on our ski team as an alpine racer. He is majoring in Business and spends his free time on the slopes during the winter. When the snow melts he plans on playing soccer with Western’s club team. He says that everything is different about Gunnison from his hometown in Austria- from the size of the town to the weather. His favorite thing about Western is its proximity to ski resorts and the long ski season we have. He tries to visit home when he can- he went home for Christmas and Spring Break. He loves attending school here and is having a great time representing Western on the ski team.

Runner.Anne Jepkurui Ronoh, Kenya

Anne is from Kenya and she is in the second semester of her freshman year at Western. She runs for Western’s national championship cross country team and came in 17th with a time of 21.07.8 at the 2006 National x-country championship in Florida. Her photo shows her at that race. Anne is majoring in Accounting and says that her favorite thing about Western “is the learning program- the dedicated professors and small classes. Every day I see welcoming and smiling faces.” The biggest surprise for her was the snow- coming from Kenya she had never seen snow before coming to Colorado. She also says she truly appreciates the freedom of speech and expression we have in the U.S. Her goals at Western are to be a good student, and to emerge as a successful person ready to return to Kenya and impact her home country. She loves to spend her weekends and time off being with friends, shopping in town and skiing.
