WSC Recycling Progress Chart
Western State College diverts anywhere from 9,000 to 19,000 lbs. of recyclable material from the landfill on a monthly basis. We recycled approximately 118,000 lbs. (59 tons) of material in 2011. In greenhouse gas (GHG) terms, this means we reduced our GHG emissions by 169 tons of CO 2 equivalent. This is similar to the yearly carbon sequestration of a 33 acre pine forest or the annual GHG emissions from 30 passenger vehicles! We encourage you to get involved in our campus sustainability efforts and help make a difference in the Gunnison Valley.
