Education Department

Western has deep roots as a teacher's college and continues - after more than 100 years - to graduate well-rounded educators.

Western's Education Department focuses on developing skilled instructors to help build America's future. In keeping with the university's liberal arts heritage, young educators find opportunities to pursue broad areas of interest. Many students major in Education with minors in specialty fields, such as Natural & Environmental Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Recreation, Exercise and Sport Science, even Business Education & Accounting. Students majoring in those departments often minor in Education.

All find many opportunities to instruct others as they learn themselves, in Gunnison-area schools as well as in school districts around the country, as they study for teaching certificates while working in classrooms. The options and opportunities are as varied as the eclectic mix of students and instructors who comprise Western Education.
