Academic Credit Options
Undergraduate and graduate students who are not enrolled in Western's Graduate Program in Creative Writing can earn credit for attendance at the conference through Western's Division of Extended Studies.
Undergraduates can earn degree-seeking credit.
Students with an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution can earn one non-degree graduate level credit in “ENG 510,” which is run through the Western Teachers Institute, administered by Western's Extended Studies Office. Additional fees apply. For more information contact Western's Extended Studies Program at or 1-800-876-5309 , ext. 7, or ExtendedStudies@western.edu.
Important Travel Information
The Gunnison Valley is rural and beautiful, but it is also a resort and recreational hub with a full-service commercial airport only a mile from Western's campus. This summer the airport offers jet service from Denver and Houston.
That's the good news.
The challenge is that flights are frequently expensive. As a result, we encourage you to book travel early.
Another option for travelers: we will be running shuttle vans from Denver, Grand Junction and Montrose, which have larger airports and significantly lower fares. Denver is about a four-hour drive one-way; Grand Junction is about three hours; Montrose (on the way to Grand Junction) is about one hour. We encourage you to shop around. Please remember that the welcome reception begins at 5:30 on Wednesday, July 22. We will be running shuttles from all airports that arrive in time for that event, along with shuttles that depart later in the day. Again, please book early.
All information about shuttle rides, including times and fares, is on the registration page.
