The Music Department provides opportunities for all members of the Western State College community to gain rewarding musical experience as participants in ensembles.

Bands

Symphony Band

The Symphony Band is open to all students through audition. Throughout the academic year, the Western State College Symphony Band schedules frequent campus and community performances. The study and performance of wind literature masterpieces are emphasized.  Follow the band on Facebook.

Varsity Band

The Varsity Band performs for home football and basketball games.

Vocal

Western State College Concert Choir is open by audition to all students who are interested in singing.

A select group of singers, the WSC Chamber Singers perform vocal ensemble repertoire for all historical periods.

Jazz Ensembles

WSC Jazz Ensembles are open to all students by audition. Groups include the large Jazz Ensemble, "High Altitude" Dixieland Combo, and Modern Jazz Combo. Ensembles perform on campus, in the Gunnison-Crested Butte community, and at state and national jazz festivals.

String Ensembles

Orchestra

This group performs together regularly as a string ensemble, full orchestra and a small chamber group. The WSC College-Community Orchestra and Choir combine together to perform major works.

Instrumental ensembles are open to all interested performers and include Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, String and Jazz Ensembles, and Flute Choir, as well as additional small ensembles.
