Math Camp
Western State College is adding more summer camps for youth. Come see why we have more FUN!
2012 Math Camp
Dates
22 July - 28 July 2012
Objective
The 2012 summer mathematics camp for middle school students at Western State College of Colorado is a unique opportunity for middle school students to explore the exciting and mind-altering world of mathematics in a way they wouldn't normally get to experience in a typical classroom.
Camp participants will be taking part in a week long camp that will have daily lessons that may include topics such as knot theory, cryptography, geometry, fractals, and math modeling. Students will be introduced to these topics in a morning session and will be able to put this new knowledge to work in exciting afternoon activities. They will work with mathematics professors and college students, as well as interact with peers who share an interest in mathematics.
Extra Curricular Activities
In addition to the scholarly activity the campers will be able to take advantage of Western State's amazing geographical surroundings. Located in Gunnison Colorado, Western State is situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Because of this, the camp is able to provide a daily outdoor activity for the campers. These activities are lead by the Wilderness Pursuits program on campus and are lead by their excellent staff. Activities for the campers include hiking, biking, rafting, and climbing.
All students entering 8th and 9th grades are invited to apply for the camp. Special consideration will
be given to those who can show academic strength.
Scholarships
There are also scholarships available. Preference for scholarships will be given to first generational and minority students.
