Mathematics
A description of the Mathematics Program at Western State Colorado University
The math program at Western State Colorado University is more than a collection of classes. Our faculty are dedicated to undergraduate mathematics education. They use a variety of teaching methods including lecture, small group work, technology, and student projects to get students engaged in mathematics. Our students work together on homework in the math study room, they are employed as tutors and graders for the department, and they get individual attention from the faculty.
In addition to coursework, students in the department attend the Pikes Peak Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conference in February where our seniors present their research projects. We have a banquet in the spring where scholarship winners and graduates are honored. Each fall the department has a barbecue to welcome our returning students back to campus and to help our new students become part of our community. Both of these events are open to all students and faculty interested in mathematics or computer science, their friends and family.
Our students are an integral part of the mathematics program at Western State Colorado University. Please contact the department chair, Andy Keck, at agkeck@western.edu for information about our program.
