Mark Todd reported that the newly created MFA in Creative Writing program has 18 students enrolled and that 93 students are enrolled in the MA in Education program. The Graduate Studies Council approves graduate programs. If any program desires to propose a new graduate program, the Council will need to see the white paper by early spring of 2011 to prepare for NCA’s return in 2012-13, at which time NCA will review the graduate programs and any new graduate programs that the College might propose.
IV. Faculty Trustee Report
Allen Stork reported that the Board of Trustees met Thursday of last week. FAP proposed a 9.1% tuition rate increase, with safeguards to ensure accessibility for poorer students. At the next Board meeting on September 24, a vote will be taken on the possibility submitting a Financial Accountability Plan (FAP) to the CCHE. Submitting this five-year plan is necessary should the college need to raise tuition above 9 percent for 2011-2012. The trustees feel the flexibility to raise tuition above 9 percent is necessary to ensure Western State College’s financial stability. The current draft FAP shows a tuition increase of 11.6 percent for in-state students and 5 percent for non-resident students. Twenty-five percent of the tuition increase would be used to fund scholarships for financially needy students. The FAP is based on many revenue assumptions and the figures are subject to change.
