Faculty Senate Meeting 2-22-2010

Curriculum changes for 2010/11 that were approved by the Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate were also approved at the last meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Some Senators related that several faculty members felt consternation about the move of the Resort Management degree from OLRM to Business. This is exacerbated by the higher salary that faculty (including a new hire) in the Business Dept. will receive by the transfer of RM to Business. It is felt by some that departments with small classes such as Business and some of the hard Sciences may be given preferential treatment in the future while departments with large classes such as CALL and BASS will endure the brunt of budget cutting. This would result in larger classes and faculty loads in those classes will increase at a time when other departments will continue to have small class sizes.

A request was made for the next Faculty Senate meeting on March 8th to be open for a Q&A with members of the Cabinet. This request was passed by a unanimous vote. The request was made, in part, because there had been an expectation that the President's Convocation in the College Center last week would include a Q&A, but it did not. A larger venue for the next Faculty Senate meeting will be sought.
