Just as life flows from geographic Headwaters, we hope inspiration and success at Western State Colorado University flows from this inaugural course, this "Headwaters" of your University experience. In this course, we examine the complexity of our Headwaters Region from interdisciplinary perspectives. But we also examine the source of a transformative educational experience, and imagine how that can flow into a prosperous intellectual, civic, and personal life. This discussion-based seminar, supplemented by our Headwaters Lecture Series and field trips exploring the Gunnison Country's learning laboratories, introduces you to WSCU dedicated faculty, diverse disciplines, supportives culture of learning, and active lifestyle. Headwaters 100 Orientation 

Your First Year Seminar meets for the first time during Orientation- where you meet your  professor and student mentor for the course. During Orientation, you have the chance to participate in field experiences such as the HWTR 100 service project and a Wilderness Pursuit trip. You also meet your first year academic advisor before the end of Orientation. Finally, as a part of your First Year Seminar, President Jay Helman, kicks off the Headwaters Lecture Series with our inaugural convocation: The Western Liberal Arts Experience, on Monday, August 27th.

• Tuesday, September 4th: Dr. Duane Vandenbusche, The Gunnison Country: Outdoor and Academic Paradise.

  

• Tuesday, September 18th: Panel on Sustainability in the Gunnison Valley- the view from the ground up led by Karen Howe, WSCU student.
• Tuesday, October 2nd: Dr. Rob Fillmore, "What are those mountains made of and how did they get there?: The geologic history of the Gunnison area".
• Tuesday, October 16th: Panel on Arts and Music in Gunnison Valley- a panel discussion.
