Graduate Programs
Western State College of Colorado offers two Master's Degree programs. Both programs include an on-campus component in the summer, followed by online coursework.
Master of Arts in Education
In this program, students may complete requirements for initial teacher licensure, add an endorsement, and complete the Master of Arts in Education. The master's candidate must earn and successfully complete a minimum of 40 semester credits of graduate course work, including a graduate capstone. Candidates may pursue a Master of Arts in Education in one of three tracks: Teacher Leadership, Reading Leadership, or Education Administrator Leadership.
Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
In this program the candidate must earn and successfully complete 60 credits. The program includes two-week, on-campus seminars during three consecutive summers for nine credits; a plan of study requiring four academic semesters for 48 credits; and a capstone thesis for three credits. The master's candidate earns a degree is one of three tracks: Genre Fiction/Nonfiction, Poetry as Versecraft, or Screenwriting.

Publishing Certificate
In this program the candidate must successfully complete a thirteen-month, 18-credit course of studies. The program includes two-week, on-campus seminars during two consecutive summer for six credits; online coursework during the fall and spring semesters between those summers for 12 credits; and on-going participation on an editorial board that prepares a book for publication with Western's press.
