OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE FACULTY SENATE 11/27/00

Senators Present: Jane Berard, Cheryl Brown, Jay Helman (VPAA), Wendy Highby, Bill King (clerk), Terri Lennon, Terry Mullen, Heather Orr, Nancy Gale (for Mark Riney), Dan Schuster, Allen Stork (chair), Heather Thiessen-Reily (vice-chair), Jim Westerman

VISITORS: Jodi Day, SGA president, Dennis Hyams

Allen Stork called the meeting to order at 4:20.

1. The agenda was approved and the minutes approved with minor corrections.

2. Chair’s Report. None.

3. VPAA Report. The academic calendar adjustments will be reviewed soon to keep fall commencement from getting too close to Christmas. He asked for comments from Senators and there was agreement that a review was a good idea.

4. Old Business

Computer Science Major Proposal

There was discussion of the motion on the floor from the last meeting and clarification of several minor points including the mathematics requirements. The vote was unanimously in favor of approval.

New Emphases with Majors

Helman has agreed to bring this issue before the chairs, so that departments can review the need for so many emphases. There was discussion of where changes would be initiated.

5. New Business. None.
