Old Business

Report from the Director of IT Services: In regard to the new energy saving policy, ITS is moving computers to use “hibernation mode” as they install Windows 7 in the computer labs.  Faculty computers will be dealt with individually as the upgrades to Windows 7 proceeds.

Blackboard: There seems to be a problem with email reminders to students – sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Seems to be a “bug” within Blackboard.  ITS will patch this when a solution is found.  Discussion continued regarding old content (course content in Blackboard for old classes). There seems to be general agreement that course content should always be saved for one year, the time a student has to dispute a grade.  It was also pointed out that many classes are on a two year cycle.

Degree Works: Students and faculty are slowly adapting.  There are still some errors in the data - these are being fixed but faculty should be alert to possible problems.

HRCI Policy: John raised a question regarding safeguarding academic information and potential violations of the High Risk Information Policy.  Kevin assured the committee that situations such as forgetting to log out or leaving an office door unlocked would not result in serious discipline.

New Business

Summer upgrades: Computer Science faculty asked if there were summer upgrades planned for the Mac Labs operating systems? Chad indicated this is not currently planned.
