National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)

Welcome to the NOLS program.
(For NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute, click here.)

NOLS and Western State Colorado University have developed a partnership to provide college credit for NOLS courses.

Once a student enrolls in a NOLS course, credit registration is available through Western Extended Studies. Upon successful completion of the course and assignments due, Recreation and Outdoor Education credit is awarded. The amount of credit earned is based upon the length of the course.

Beginning with new registrations for the 2016-2017 academic year received by our office after June 1, 2016, the Recreation and Outdoor Education Department and Extended Studies have designed a new assignment with reduced writing for NOLS Expedition students that will provide catalog specific Western State Colorado University course credit. Based on length of course, students will have choices to register in as little as 3 credits or as many as 10 credits to earn ROE catalog course credit. Additional special topics (ROE 397) credits may be added, as well. Each category of credits has a corresponding assignment. For the new assignment catalog description, please click here.
