Welcome to the Outward Bound program.
Outward Bound and Western State Colorado University have developed a partnership to provide college credit for Outward Bound programs.
Once a student enrolls in an Outward Bound course, credit registration is available through Western Extended Studies. Upon successful completion of the course and assignments due, Recreation and Outdoor Education (ROE) credit is awarded under the course prefix OUTD. This prefix was created and approved to define ROE catalog credit for Outward Bound credit students that is specific to Extended Studies. The amount of credit earned is based upon the length of the course.

Beginning academic year 2017-2018, the Recreation and Outdoor Education Department (ROE) and Extended Studies designed assignments for Outward Bound students that will provide ROE Western State Colorado University course credit* under the course prefix OUTD. The new OUTD course prefix was created and approved to define ROE catalog credit that is specific to Extended Studies Outdoor Programs registration. Based on length of course, students have choices to register in as little as 3 credits or as many as 9 credits to earn course credit. Additional special topics (OUTD 397) credits based on learning experiences gained on course may be added, as well. Each category of credits has a corresponding assignment. A single term registration may not exceed 18 credits.
