NOLS Wilderness Medicine

Welcome to the NOLS Wilderness Medicine program.

NOLS and Western State Colorado University have developed a partnership to provide college credit for Wilderness Medicine courses.

Once a student enrolls in a Wilderness Medicine course, credit registration is available through Western Extended Studies. Upon successful completion of the course and assignments due, Recreation and Outdoor Education (ROE) 397 credit is awarded. The amount of credit earned is based upon the length of the course.

Credit Registration

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***

Effective Friday, April 7, 2017 and beginning with summer term registrations, the available credit earned for the Wilderness First Aid and the Wilderness Medicine for Professional Practitioner courses offered by NOLS Wilderness Medicine has been reduced from 1 credit to .5 credit. The cost of the .5 credit is $60.00. This is a result of a review of Extended Studies courses that are accredited through the Higher Learning Commission, Western's accrediting institution. Any registrations that have previously been received for these two courses for summer term and beyond will be processed with the .5 credit and $60.00 pricing.

Additional information for questions concerning summer 2017 courses:

All courses are placed into a Western school term based upon the END DATE of the course. If the end date of your course is after May 10, this is a summer 2017 term course, and you will earn a .5 credit at the new rate of $60.00 per credit hour for the Wilderness First Aid and the Wilderness Medicine for Professional Practitioner courses.
