Working Towards Sustainability Workshops

Afternoon Workshops Offered

Campus Activism, featuring Molly Mugglestone, Lecturer in Politics and Government

This workshop is meant to teach participants how to work with organizations to make their ideas into forces of change.  Focus is placed on lobbying, activism, and how to work with organizations to effectively create change.

Campus Carbon Reduction: How WSC Could Cut Emissions in Half for Less than the Price of a Textbook

The participants of this workshop will learn about the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment goals that Western State College has committed to achieving, and understand how close the College is to meeting these goals. Participants will also learn about the opportunities and options for funding sustainability initiatives on campus. The workshop will include a hands-on energy demonstration, two short lectures, a discussion, and a chance for participants to voice their opinion. A short survey will be handed out, which will give everyone a chance to voice their opinions anonymously.

How to be a Conscientious Consumer: Better World Shopping Guide

Participants learn how and why to support environmentally conscious business practices.  As consumers, we have the power to create change in markets by financially supporting certain entities over others.

Indoor Food Production

Through hands-on learning, participants will be empowered to start their own indoor seedlings and countertop sprouts.  Supplies for these projects will be provided.

Bicycle Maintenance Basics

Workshop attendees will learn essential, basic bike maintenance skills, in hopes to encourage alternative modes of transportation.  Other topics that will be covered   include how to use the ride-share website, and data on potential savings for alternative transportation.  This workshop also intends to help participants develop alternative transportation plans that suit their individual commuting needs
