Ralph E. Clark Fund

Mission Statement

The Ralph E. Clark Fund will be used for creating, developing, and promoting a strong Environmental Studies (ENVS) major at Western State Colorado University. Activities and funding proposals to develop ENVS classes and the major will be given priority in the distribution of funds. Funds may also be used to promote environmental education or provide a forum for addressing environmental issues in the Gunnison region, provided such activities help to enrich the Environmental Studies major.

Examples of activities/items that meet the mission of the fund include:

  • Faculty and curriculum development to enrich the ENVS major.

  • Special educational events like the Environmental Studies symposium.

  • Purchasing equipment and supplies necessary for delivery or improvement of ENVS classes.

  • Attracting and retaining students in the major.

  • Conference and field work support for students.

Funding Proposal Guidelines

A portion of the Clark funds will be allocated each year based on proposals from students and faculty at Western. All proposals will be reviewed by the Environmental Studies council. Priority will be given to proposals by faculty teaching courses within the major. All proposals must address the mission of the fund and propose activities that will have a significant positive impact on the ENVS major. Proposals should be submitted by the 6th week of classes in either term for a maximum award of $300.00.

Proposal Format

The proposal should be submitted in writing to the ENVS director or another ENVS Coundil member and should include:

  1. A description of the proposed use of the funds.

  2. A discussion of how the funds will further the mission (see above).

  3. A detailed budget (including discussion of matching funds and timeline for fund expenditure).

  4. A timeline for submitting an electronic final report to the ENVS director and administrative assistant.
