Trail Restoration
A group of Western Students in the ENVS 250 Service Learning project accomplished trail restoration on the trails behind campus to help Kelley Hall achieve more LEED points to reach its Gold certification. They had a group of about a dozen volunteers come out and work on the trails. These Students cleaned the trails and built water diversions to help with trail sustainability in the area. These changes help to create a sustainable environment around Kelley Hall as well as educate the volunteers on trail restoration, environmental stewardship, and sustainable building.

With the help of Gunnison Trail's David Wiens, thses students were able to restore the trails in the area, and educate the volunteers. Those that reached the end of the project gained a new respect and outlook for a world view of stewardship. This appreciation came from viewing the world as more than a sum of its parts and seeing connections between differing interests in resource uses. This results in an emphasis in integrating various views when trying to find solutions to environmental problems. The work they did on the trails, and what the newly renovated Kelley Hall represents address these important issues.
