About the Camp

This camp experience prepares high school students to be leaders in finding solutions to the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Campers learn from Environmental Studies faculty, students, and graduates about successful programs in the Gunnison Valley.  The camp participants use their help to create an environmental action plan for their home, school or community.  They will learn about the structure and functioning of natural systems and the ways that human social, political, and economic activity affects those systems.

Our camp features ecosystem hikes, work with the Gunnison Community Garden project, analysis of the LEED certified buildings on the campus, and a sustainable ranching tour.  This camp stresses hands-on experience - Gunnison provides extensive opportunities to work in both the field and the community to explore topics in environmental leadership. Participants are immersed in issues, plans and activities throughout the week.

Our camp is limited to just 12 participants.  This allows us to give everyone individual attention and allows each camper to customize their experience to their interests.

Recreational Activities

Located in Gunnison Colorado, Western State Colorado University is situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.  Because of this, the camp is able to provide a daily outdoor activity for the campers. These activities are lead by the Wilderness Pursuits program on campus and are lead by their highly-trained staff.  Activities for the campers include hiking, biking, rafting, and climbing.

Registration

Registration will be available soon.  The cost of this camp is $690 for students staying on campus and $390 for day campers.
