Now accepting applications for the cohort which begins July 2012.
Program Information

Western’s low-residency MFA in Creative Writing focuses on writing for larger audiences: concentrations in mainstream as well as genre fiction; poetry with an emphasis in versecraft; and screenwriting for Indies, Hollywood, and television. Residencies occur the last two weeks of July, high in the Colorado Rockies.
This low-residency program involves four online semesters of coursework, including a combination of online writing submissions and critiques as well as regular synchronous discussion with successful and publishing/producing writer-mentors.
Each year begins with a two-week intensive seminar on Western’s Colorado campus. Students attend residences for three consecutive summers, in which they network within an inspiring community of peers and attend student and faculty readings,
workshops on craft and literature, and master classes.
During the summer residency, the MFA also hosts two embedded writing conferences, Writing the Rockies and The Critical Path Poetry Symposium, and students may attend those tracks and sessions that interest them most. These events include opportunities for pitch sessions with agents, producers, and acquisition editors.
