Art Education Licensure

Building on Western's excellent offerings in studio, art history, and liberal arts, the Art Education emphasis provides the understanding and tools that enable students to recognize the dynamic relationships between personal life experience, the creative process, and the art product.

Students in this program learn skills and techniques to pass on to other students, as well as skills that help them discover personal sources of creative energy.

Teachers not only understand and communicate form and content in art, they also help others develop perception and natural expressive qualities. Such communication demands special skills. Using both verbal and nonverbal techniques of communicating an art experience, faculty in this emphasis teach that art is an integrating, energizing and humanizing force in our society, and that it encompasses real content and real knowledge.
