Turning Point Program
This program is specifically designed to assist academically vulnerable students (i.e. students placed on academic probation) in their academic endeavors and help them become successful students. There are many factors that can affect both learning and academic performance, including personal problems, time and stress management issues, poor study habits, or underutilizing academic services on campus. Through the Turning Point Program, students receive assistance in examining the factors that contributed to their probationary status thus enabling them to take steps toward academic success.
The three main aspects of the Turning Point Program are the Academic Contract, Individualized Meetings, and Campus Involvement:
- Academic Contract
Students involved in Turning Point will meet with Katie Miller, Turning Point Coordinator, to review an academic learning contract for the semester. Personalized for each student, this contract is designed to guide students through the semester and to help get back on track academically.
- Individualized Meetings
Turning Point students will meet with Katie Miller, Turning Point Coordinator, twice during the semester. In the first meeting students will take a pre-semester success survey and identify individual goals to gain academic skills. The second meeting will be after midterm exams to assess the student's progress and to get feedback from instructors.
- Campus Involvement
Turning Point Students will be required to attend one Summit Success Workshop and participate in one extracurricular activity.
Program Goals:
- To partner with students to increase their awareness and use of on-campus resources, and provide the support to help with their academic success.
- To provide policy information regarding academic suspension and dismissal to students.
- To assist in the retention and development of academically vulnerable students.
